Fiji visitor arrivals up in August, but Asian arrivals down

The number of visitors to Fiji increased by 6.8 per cent in August this year, compared to the same month in 2010.

The Fiji Visitors Bureau says 66,040 visitors came to Fiji in August.  Australians made up the largest group at 47.1 per cent, followed by new Zealanders.

But government statistician Timoci Bainimarama said there were fewer visitors from other Pacific Islands, down 16.5 per cent; Japan and South Korea down 13.6 per cent to 1390 and 420, respectively.

Bainimarama says in the 12 months ending August 2011, the total number of visitors to Fiji increased by 9.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2010.
