Malaysian business Rimbunan Hijau is suing Papua New Guinea’s Post Courier newspaper for defamation over a report involving one of its logging subsidiaries, Gilford Ltd.
The National newspaper (which is also owned by Rimbunan Hijau) reports the writ of summons refers to Post Courier articles about logging and land ownership in Pomio, East New Britain. RH’s lawyers say the defamation action relates to “the continuous publication of a statement that the RH Group was in contempt of a court order in relation to the operations at the oil palm project in the Pomio district.”
“We say that the headline is manifestly wrong, presumptive and sub-judice. It is an invention,” statement says.
