Freeport offers workers 30 percent pay increase

The Freeport McMoran mining company has offered to increase its workers’ base salaries by 30 percent at its Papua mine.

Thousands of workers have been on strike for seven weeks, seeking significant wage increases. Since the strike began violence has increased in Papua, some of it related to the industrial action.

However the Jakarta Post reports that the negotiations remain deadlocked with the union asking for time to explore possible options.
