PNG Forestry Authority vouches for Malaysian company

The Papua New Guinea Forest Authority says Malaysian logging company, Rimbunan Hijau, has passed all the necessary legal hurdles.

Environmental organization Greenpeace has been supporting the protest of about 200 landowners in West Pomio in New Britain island by slowing down RH’s shipment from the area. Greenpeace and the landowners claim the logs have been acquired illegally.

But the director of the Forest Authority, Kanawi Pouru, has told Radio New Zealand International that the company went through a number of steps to get approval for its logging activities.
