Strike prompts Freeport declares force majeure on some sales

Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold has declared force majeure on some concentrate sales from its Papua mine, which has been affected by a volatile strike for the last month and a half.

The Jakarta Globe reports Freeport’s decision frees it from some of its contractual obligations to supply buyers. The news buoyed copper prices on the London Metal Exchange on Wednesday.
