Marshall Islands-Taiwan fishing venture a success

The success of a Marshall Islands-Taiwan joint venture may lead to the purchase of two more purse seiners by the fishing business.

The Marianas Business Journal reports that the Marshall Islands Fishing Co. generated almost US$800,000 for the Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority (MIMRA) last year.

This is expected to increase to almost US$1 million for 2011.

MIMRA is now looking to expand the joint venture beyond the Marshall Islands, with Nauru and Kiribati expressing interest in the arrangement.
