Philippines owned cannery Frabelle PNG continues to lock out workers after more than 3,000 of them went on a three day strike last week.
The National newspaper reports the workers have been told to stay away until further directions from Frabelle’s headquarters in Manila.
Unionist Tom Vevo has been organizing the protesting workers. “For an international multi-million kina company to intimidate local workers is not on. As the prophet of industrial workers, I predict bloodshed in the coming years through uprisings by Papua New Guineans who are fed up with such abuses,” he says.
The workers are seeking improved conditions.
