Borneo ships urged to register with Tuvalu, Kiribati

Over 20 Borneo-based shipyard owners and shipbuilders were encouraged to register their ships in Tuvalu and Kiribati during a seminar this week.

The Borneo Post reports Sarawak and Sabah Shipowners Association (SSSA) president Ting Heng Kiong as saying the Tuvalu and Kiribati Ship Registries offers many benefits over ship registries in Malaysia or Singapore.

“Their ships are also subject to international recognition,” he says.

The Tuvalu and Kiribati Ship Registries have headquarters in Singapore to take advantage of that country’s excellent communication and financial infrastructure.
