United, Continental merger brings good and bad news to Guam

The merger of United and Continental Airlines will bring mixed blessing to Guam reports the Marianas Business Journal.

The merger will add some 2000 seats to the Guam market, and an extra route to Japan.

But there will be less jobs on the ground in Guam.

United Continental Holdings launched a new service between Okinawa and Guam in September. It runs four times a week.

Barry Bergmann, managing director for Micronesia and Southeast Asia for United Continental says the 2,000 additional air seats into the market per week could mean an additional $58 million per year into Guam
