Marshall Islands seafarers programme gets support

The Marshall Islands Marine Vocational Training program has been given a boost with the signing of a MOU between the Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority and the College of the Marshall Islands to provide funding of $250,000.

Yokwe.net reports that the Maritime Vocational Training program will train Marshallese candidates to be qualified as seafarers in local and international maritime markets.

“It’s a gateway to first level employment on any ship,” explained Interim President Carl Hacker. “It also opens the door to many other employment opportunities.”

Participants will also be passing the International Maritime Organization standards, as well as receiving certification for Seafarers’ 40 hour basic safety course.
