Malaysian firms in Papua New Guinea employ 40,000 people according to Malaysian High Commissioner to PNG, Datin Blanche Olbery.
“Malaysia has always considered PNG as an important trading partner in the pacific region,” High Commissioner Olbery says in the Post Courier newspaper.
“To date, more than 600 Malaysian companies/enterprises are conducting business in PNG and have still remained as the leading citizen job providers with 40,000 jobs.
“Total trade last year was registered at K407 million compare with K290 million in 2009, a significant increase of 40 per cent.
“Malaysian private sector in PNG continues to have significant presence with investments totaling K3.3billion (since 1994). In short, Malaysia is the second largest investor in PNG,” she said.
