Malaysia urges PNG to follow its lead

Malaysia says Papua New Guinea could follow its lead in achieving national unity.

The National newspaper reports Malaysia’s High Commission to PNG, Datin Seri Blanche Olbery as saying the countries have many socio-economic similarities, and that her country’s “one Malaysia” concept could be a model for multi-tribal PNG.

Olbery says Malaysia has moved from being an agriculture and commodity-based low income economy to a successful middle income economy because of this recipe and the “one PNG” concept could be successful locally as well.

The Ambassador says Malaysia is the second largest investor in PNG, and that last year trade between the countries increased by 40 per cent.
