Thai delegation encouraged to look at Fiji biofuel investments

The recent visit of a Thai trade delegation to Fiji prompted energy officials to encourage them to look at investment in biofuel production.

Department of  Energy acting director Peceli Nakavulevu says Fiji is only producing a fraction of its bio-fuel needs.

Fiji’s government is focussing on renewable fuel production and use, with the imminent completion of a new hydro project, and biofuel from coconut programmes amongst other initiatives.

Meanwhile Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade Saipora Mataikabara told the Thai delegates that ‘The recent inauguration of Fiji’s Embassy in Indonesia and Malaysia is an indication of the strengthening diplomatic relations, and creation of opportunities for forging areas of trade, investment and tourism in the Asia Pacific region.

‘We believe this will also serve as an opportunity to share technical knowledge to our private sector members which would assist them in improving their business opportunities and securing a fair share of exports to Thailand.’
