Philippines wants bilateral fishing talks with island nations

The President of the Philippines wants the establishment of a high level negotiating team to discuss bilateral fishing agreements with island nations.

The Philippines Star reports that the country’s fishing industry has been negatively affected by the two year ban on two high-seas fishing imposed by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.

That ban is due to end in November, although Pacific Island states want it to continue.

The President wants talks to focus on Palau, the Solomon Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Indonesia.
